Originally a writer and illustrator, Chris McVeigh started experimenting with photography in 2007.
He specialises in clever, quirky and comical images featuring everything from action figures to
backyard wildlife. This is Thriller came about after he bought 24 Lego zombies:"I'd always wanted to
shoot a horde of zombies," he admits. "I used a Canon Tti with a Canon60mm lens for most shots, and a colourful treatment and centre fill helped with atmosphere."
Goldenrod was inspired by a line from the Empire Strikes Back,where Han Solo calls C-3PO by that
name. McVeigh noted the similarity to GoldenEye, and set to work converting the droid into 007.
"The most important thing was to recreate the look and feel of the films. This one was shot in a
custom light box, with one lamp at the right. The pink glow was created by bouncing light off a
piece of red card stock," he explains.
A Balanced Brickfast might look like a fairly casual shot of Lego bricks tossed into a bowl, but
there's more to it than that:"Every square brick is posed individually, using a variety of unseen
bricks to tilt and rotate them to position. Milk was then poured into the bowl, hiding the understructure."
